Its main character is “Chuck,” a Nicaraguan graffiti artist who emigrated to Costa Rica, triggering the graffiti scene in that country.

TLACUILOS, «DEFINITIVE CHRONICLE OF GRAFFITI AND HIP HOP IN CENTRAL AMERICA», A PIONEERING EPIC TALE MADE BY THE COSTA RICAN FEDERICO PEIXOTO AND NARRATED BY THE PIONEERING GRAFFITI ARTISTS THEMSELVES.

"TLACUILOS" IN THE MAYAN EMPIRE ALLUDED TO THE MASTER SCULPTORS WHO CARVED THE CHRONICLES OF THEIR TIME WITH INSCRIPTIONS ON STONE CODICES THAT ENDURE ALMOST TWO MILLENNIA LATER. THE DOCUMENTARY TLACUILOS MADE HISTORY WITH A SIMULTANEOUS WORLD PREMIERE IN FIVE COUNTRIES OF THE CENTRAL AMERICAN ISTHMUS IN 2019 ON THE CINÉPOLIS CINEMA CHAIN. ITS U.S.A. PREMIERE TOOK PLACE IN NEW YORK CITY IN JANUARY 2020 WITH BRONX WORLD FILM, A PIONEERING PLATFORM FOR CENTRAL AMERICAN AUTEUR CINEMA IN THIS COUNTRY. FILMED OVER TWENTY YEARS IN EIGHT COUNTRIES BY PEIXOTO, TLACUILOS CAPTURES IN HIGH RELIEF THE DISTINCTIVE STAMP THAT CENTRAL AMERICA IMPOSES ON THE GENRE. ITS VISUAL SIGNATURE HIGHLIGHTS THE LIVING CONNECTION WITH ANCIENT MAYAN ART, VISITING IMPORTANT ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES THROUGHOUT THE ISTHMUS. A LONG TRADITION OF WORLD-CLASS STORYTELLING TAKES ITS PLACE IN THE RAPPERS' VERSES, WHICH REFLECT THE GRAVE INEQUALITIES, CATACLYSMS, CIVIL WARS AND EXODUS THAT MARK THEIR WORLD. INCIDENTAL MUSIC, MUCH OF IT ORIGINAL COMPOSITION FOR THE FILM, INVOKES THE INDIGENOUS, BUT IS SET AGAINST AN INTRIGUING TAPESTRY OF CONTEMPORARY GLOBALIST INFLUENCES. SPANISH-SPEAKING AUDIENCES WILL MARVEL AT SO MANY VARIANTS OF SPANISH IN SUCH A SMALL REGION. TLACUILOS, AN EIGHTY-THREE-MINUTE EPIC, FOCUSES ON A REGION AND A MOVEMENT THAT "IS ACHIEVING WHAT HAS NOT BEEN ACHIEVED POLITICALLY: CENTRAL AMERICAN INTEGRATION" (DJ FLAKO, GUATEMALA, 2012)
