GREY GARDENS

Albert Maysles, David Maysles, Ellen Hovde, Muffie Myer, Susan Fromke, 1975, 100 min.

GREY GARDENS is the film no one forgets. It was revolutionary for its time, and its lasting influence today is seen in the newest documentary films annually awarded each year by the Maysles Documentary Center’s Albie Awards. The documentary is known for its "direct cinema" observation of two reclusive, upper-class women, Edith Bouvier Beale and her adult daughter, Edith "Little Edie" Bouvier Beale. The women are cousins of Jackie O, high-society dropouts who lived in squalor on the grounds of their decaying East Hampton estate.

Even 50 years later, the love for the Maysles 1975 classic, award-winning GREY GARDENS film continues to inspire. From films to magazine covers to collectible dolls at Target.
