Miners Shot Down

(Back by Popular Demand!)

Rehad Desai, 2014, 86 min. sai

In August 2012, 34 striking mineworkers in Marikana, South Africa were gunned down in cold blood. While the police pointed their guns on the striking miners, the government of the African National Congress, once led by Nelson Mandela, pulled the trigger. The South African government has pursued pro-big business policies and rejected its own limited Freedom Charter. Miners Shot Down is a graphic demonstration of the responsibility of the government in this most heinous crime. The film includes exclusive footage of the Marikana massacre by ANC Police.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Margaret Kimberley, an Editor and Senior Columnist of Black Agenda Report and Marty Goodman, Socialist Action, former member TWU Local 100 Executive Board.
