Playwright Ron Hutchinson Presents:
Meet Marlon Brando
Albert Maysles, 1966, 29 min.
The Maysles Brothers’ seminal documentary portrait Meet Marlon Brando is a delightful, unusually candid portrait of the world-famous movie star, a tongue-in-cheek confrontation with the press. While television journalists interview Brando about his most recent film, he counters their futile questions with wit and insight, a man unwilling to sell himself.
After the film, Emmy award-winning screenwriter and playwright Ron Hutchinson (Prisoner of Honor, The Burning Season and Against the Wall) will discuss the one question from the film that seems to throw off the wily actor - what’s in his future. The writer flown in to rewrite one of the biggest screen disasters of all time, The Island of Doctor Moreau, Hutchinson will present a talk detailing insights into Brando’s bizarre behavior on set; fellow actor Brian Dennehy’s surprising interactions with the legend; the particular demands we make on screen actors; and reflections on the privilege and pressure of working with genius.
